Frequently Asked Questions about the Medical Office Assistant Certificate

Q: What is the difference between the medical terminology courses listed under the Health Records Certificate and those listed under the Medical Office Assistant Certificate?

A: The Medical Office Assistant terminology courses cover medical terminology plus basic human anatomy. Students registered in the Health Records Certificate complete additional, in-depth courses in anatomy and physiology. As a result, their medical terminology courses cover terminology only.

Q: I have Grade 12 or higher but not from a Canadian school. Do I still meet the Medical Office Assistant Certificate admission requirement of Grade 12 English with a minimum of 70%?

A: If you studied outside of Canada where the curriculum was not taught in English, you should take George Brown’s General English Assessment to have your English skills evaluated.

After you take the test, e-mail the Medical Office Assistant program co-ordinator, Rita Mohabir, at rmohabir@georgebrown.ca to learn your results and find out if you are eligible to register for OP 9012 (Medical Office Procedures I).

Q: Where can I go if I have more questions?

A: For more information, call 416-415-5000, ext. 2126, or e-mail cecommunity@georgebrown.ca.
